Disney Quiet Book - Part 1

I'm SOOOO excited to share this post!  This project has been months in the making, and after lots of pinterest browsing, internet searches, and discussion, I am finally almost done. 

I made a quiet book!  A DISNEY-themed quiet book!!!

Actually, I made two.  It has consumed my spare time while Raquel naps for many moons now and let me just say, I feel rather free to be so close to the end.  It has been one of the hardest projects I've embarked on because I am N.O.T a very creative person.

 

This will actually be a Christmas present, but since you all know (or should know), I am very impatient!  Plus, I realize with so many things to blog about at that time of the year, I probably wouldn't get to it.  Today you will see book 1 since it is completely finished, and later, I'll show you book 2.

I think you've all seen the car version of this.  I COULD have used the movie Cars, but thought I would try something a little different.

Inside the purse there are keys, a little mirror, and a tiny comb. I wanted to somehow make the umbrella open and close, but I couldn't figure out how to do that without it looking wierd.

Ocho Meses

What a fun age this is!  Raquel's personality is popping out more and more, and she keeps us laughing all day long.  She is a definate lady and has already mastered the many emotions fine young ladies exhibit.  In fact, at church today someone told me that Raquel and I have the same pout.  (Do I walk around church pouting?  I didn't know.)

 

 

 

 

Raquel's 8 month Facts:

• She is 14 lbs. 10 oz and 27 1/2 in.
• She can fall asleep all by herself now...execpt at church.
• She'll eat anything we give her and growls when we don't offer her some of our food.
• She's learned the art of mimmicking.
• She loves "chasing games."
• She does really well in the car these days.
• Her eyes are completely brown.
• She says "mama," "dada," and "amen."
• Her mouth is always making this silly "beak."  You can see it in one of my next pictures. 
• She's totally goofy.  I have no idea where she gets it.  Probably Luis.

 

 



Ruffles of Blue

I don't know what's gotten into me lately...oh yes I do...Pinterest.  It's got me thinking I can DIY anything!  With that attitude, I decided to DIY a pillowcase. 

 

Remember the skirt from my last post?  I used the lining from an old skirt as the base to sew the ruffles, and what do you think I used the outer part of the skirt for?  That's right...my pillowcase!  I also used some material one of my friends gave me.  The stuffing was from an old pillow whose case ripped.  That means my pillowcase was F.R.E.E.

 

 

 

(Don't worry...I DO still watch my daughter.)

I've Got an Itch

We're poor...student poor. 

Not that I'm complaining, because my life is good.  But mama said there'd be days like this when I would think back on my life pre-husband and kids.  Those were the days when I could spend my money on all sorts of frivolities, like coverings for my feet, ornaments for my neck, and all manner of fine silks to wear.

 

Nowadays, I have to spend my money on essentials like toilet paper, comet, and dryer sheets.  (ugh)

 

Thus, in my desperation for new threads, I've begun looking for inspiration in new places...like the left-over fabric from the quiet book I made.

 

Oh, why yes, yes I did make this skirt.  Thanks for asking.

Actually Mom and Dad, I can pretty much just take care of myself.

 

 

Boom-dee-ah-da

Am I a camper?  No.  Did Luis convince me to go camping this weekend?  Yes.  Did we take our 7 month old daughter?  Another yes.  Did we have fun? YES!

 

There's a lake 1 1/2 hrs away called Big Bear that we've always wanted to check out.  So, when Luis got a day off school, we made reservations at a campsite called Serrano and went.

 

We started out with a hike, which we LOVED!  It finally felt like hiking in Utah, which I miss.

 

We then set up camp, which was a lot less work than when I went to Girl's camp.  There were no impossible army tents to set up...just our tiny Coleman tent.  The area was smooth, which meant we didn't have to clear away the rocks and sticks.  And as far as trench digging (remember how we always had to dig trenches?), Luis just laughed when I suggested it.  It was super easy!  (Especially because my job consisted of holding Raquel - nice!)

In our preparations, we bought some wood for a fire, but as we drove up, we saw signs indicating the fire danger for the day was VERY HIGH.  So, when we checked in at the campsite kiosk, I told Luis to ask about whether or not we could build a fire.  After he posed his question to the grizzly old woman, she said, "Don't ya see the logs I'm sellin'?" and pointed to the stacks of wood next to our car.  We have never felt more stupid.  Sheepishly, we just smiled and moved along, but what we should have said was, "So...is that a yes?"  THAT would've been classic.



 Of course, being a non-camper with a never-camper baby, I worried how things would go.  Raquel, however, was a natural camper.

 

Unfortunately, this is the last of our pictures, because for the first time in my life, I got a migraine... at least I thought it was a migraine.  I hardly ever get headaches, so maybe I don't really know, but whatever it was, it was TORTURE!  The worst part, was that my first aid kit, which I thought was fully equipped, had no medicine whatsoever.  Thankfully, after a donation of medicine from our camping neighbors and a priesthood blessing, I recovered just in time to be woken up to my screaming baby.  Apparantly being a natural camper doesn't include sleeping in a tent.

 

Sadly, I also didn't get any pictures of our camping buddies, the Fale family.

 

Conclusion:  Yes, I had fun and surprisingly, YES I would camp again.
